Increased citizen participation in civic activities

The active interest of citizens in society is an indispensable part of a functioning democracy. By allowing public participation in decision-making and engaging citizens in civil society activities, the ACF wants to increase trust in democratic institutions and prevent the radicalization of the society.

Thematic focus:

Engaging citizens in decision making and public policy making.

The ACF will encourage citizen participation in public policy decision-making, including environmental and climate change issues. They will focus on building and improving the infrastructure that will enable the public to engage in the debate, thus enhancing its participation in decision-making – both in terms of material (physical space for organizational activities) and intangible (such as web tools, platforms and workgroups).

The aim of the program is to support 50 initiatives by civil society organizations (CSOs) to enable citizens to engage in public decision-making, of which 20 initiatives for CSOs targeting youth and 30 for organizations targeting adults.

Particular attention will be paid to engaging young people in civil society activities – by supporting at least 16 CSOs focused on youth work.
