LEFT THEIR MARK

Nowadays, we often encounter the feeling that individuals do not have the possibility to influence society and its direction. However, thanks to the Active Citizens Fund – Slovakia programme, these perceptions are being shattered. This programme, aimed at supporting active citizens who want to bring positive change in their neighbourhood, has become a powerful tool for creating a better and fairer society.

The ACF supports Slovak civic organizations in engaging citizens in decision-making and public policy making, in efforts to create better conditions for good governance, to protect human rights and to provide civic education and to improve the position of vulnerable groups in society. Particular attention is paid to young people and their participation in public affairs.

The Active Citizens Fund is part of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway’s financial assistance to 15 Member States of the European Union. ACF in Slovakia is managed by the Ekopolis Foundation in partnership with the Open Society Foundation and the Carpathian Foundation.

Between 2018 and 2023, the ACF will allocate 8.5 million EUR in 20 grant calls for projects of Slovak civic organizations. ACF will also provide other support activities, training in project management, organizational development and self-financing.

The outcome of this important programme is, in addition to the final event entitled Left Their Mark, which took place on 19 June 2024 in Banská Bystrica, a final brochure containing an evaluation of the programme and a cross-section of the projects supported under the programme.

These projects are just a small sample of what can be achieved when supported by active citizens determined to make a difference. Active Citizens Fund Slovakia has provided many individuals and organisations with the necessary resources to realise their visions and dreams. Thanks to this program, many of us have witnessed real changes that have improved the quality of life for people in various communities.

We want to express our deep gratitude to all the grantmakers who have worked and continue to work tirelessly to make these projects come to life and grow. Thanks to you, we can say that the ACF Slovakia program has been a real success and has supported a lot of great people.
